TPMIC: Advancing Research on Cognitive Health in Taiwan

TPMIC (Taiwan Precision Medicine Initiative on Cognitive Impairment) was established from the EMCIT study, the earlier study co-funded by Yen-Ling Chiu and Yi-Fang Chuang. The TPMIC study was granted by the Ministry of Science and Technology of Taiwan. It collects multi-domain information from healthy and MCI individuals of New Taipei City. This is the largest study conducted in Taiwan focusing on healthy elderly with a focus on precision medicine. During the baseline study conducted between 2021 and 2025, we collected almost one thousand individuals, conducted cognitive function tests, brain MRI imaging study (including resting-state functional imaging), gut microbiota metagenomics, blood-based biomarkers, amyloid-brain PET images, and genetic studies. The study is designed to be a longitudinal study, and participants are being actively monitored. The biological samples are stored in the FEMH biobank.

Based on the TPMIC study, many smaller research projects are being conducted by our collaborators in different academic institutions, including researchers in Korea and Sweden. We also held annual symposiums on related subjects since 2023.

TPMIC(Taiwan Precision Medicine Initiative on Cognitive Impairment,台灣認知障礙精準醫療計畫)源自 EMCIT 研究;EMCIT 是較早期由邱彥霖與莊宜芳共同開啟的研究。
